Penguin Series:
The appeal of penguins is universal, and encompasses all ages.
Their cuteness translates well into stone, and despite their apparent uniformity, it is possible to capture character and sentiment in the poses.
The earliest creation of “Dad and Lad” (2009) resides in my
daughter’s garden, much enjoyed by two very animal-focused
grand-daughters.
The “family” has grown over the years, and is likely to keep doing so as they leave the nest from time to time.
The Fiordland Series stems from a visit to Jackson's Bay, Westland where the birds breed and are quite a local icon.

The Return:
Originally created for an exhibition of Antarctic paintings commemorating the Erebus disaster. The romantic work expresses the emotion of re-uniting that is experienced by Emperor penguins when the females return to their mates who have hatched the young over the bleak winter.
Dad and Lad Series:
The "Dad and Lad " series began as a gift for my Daughter and resides in her Wellington garden overlooking the harbour from the heights of Maungaraki.
