My name is Gerard Roelof Verkaaik.

I was born in Holland in 1948, emigrated to N.Z. in 1952.
Grew up as a kiwi kid, married a Kiwi girl, raised 2 kiwi kids and now have four grand-kiwi kids.
Spent my working life as a Medical Scientist and am now in the “third age” releasing a long-dormant family art gene by way of sculpture.

While on a sculpture course run through NMIT under Lydia Geldof in 2003, she challenged me with the question “Why are you not an artist?”
I have been answering that ever since.

Fusionart is an elegant blend of stone, steel, brass, glass, or wood creatively melded into unique pieces of sculpture, sometimes in collaboration with other artisans. Using Oamaru stone as the core element, I create a wide range of sculpture in both traditional and conceptual styles for both indoor and outdoor sites.
